How can I resolve inaccuracies in credit or trade payment data shown in Capitalise?

How to resolve inaccuracies in credit or trade payment data in your Capitalise account

Capitalise aggregates credit and trade payment data from Experian and other sources to provide insights into your business credit profile. If you notice inaccuracies in the data displayed, it’s important to address them promptly. Below are the steps to resolve such issues:

Understanding Capitalise's role

Capitalise does not control or directly amend the credit and trade payment data displayed on its platform. We rely on the data from a credit bureau for data accuracy. Any corrections or disputes must be raised with the credit bureau, in our case, Experian

Steps to dispute inaccuracies

If you believe the data shown in Capitalise is inaccurate, follow these steps:

  1. Download your creditrReport: Log in to your Capitalise dashboard and download the credit report PDF. This will provide the exact details of the entry you wish to dispute.

  2. Contact the credit bureau: Reach out to Experian or the relevant credit bureau. Clearly state the nature of the inaccuracy, such as incorrect trade payment data or an erroneous "account filing overdue" entry. Mention that you are a user of Capitalise.

  3. Provide supporting information: Be prepared to share supporting evidence, such as proof of payment or filing records, to substantiate your claim.

  4. Request a formal dispute: Ask the credit bureau to log a formal dispute and provide you with a case reference number. This will allow you to track the progress of your complaint.

  5. Monitor updates: Once the credit bureau corrects the data, the changes will automatically reflect in your Capitalise profile.

Raising a formal complaint

If you wish to escalate the issue further, you can raise a formal complaint with Experian. Experian requires a company director to raise a dispute directly.

Specific scenarios

"Account filing overdue" error

If your Capitalise report shows an "account filing overdue" error but your filings are up-to-date:

  • Download your credit report from Capitalise.

  • Contact Experian to dispute the incorrect entry.

  • Provide your Companies House number and request a Data Subject Access Request if necessary.

  • Follow up with Experian to ensure the correction is made.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your business credit profile accurately reflects your financial activities.
