Who is searching my company profile?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

When someone checks your business credit profile with Experian, a record of that search is created. Experian does not typically reveal the specific name of the company that performed the search.

What information is available?

Experian provides:

  • Date of the search when your profile was accessed.

  • Industry or sector of the inquiring company – e.g., "Financial Services" or "Retail."

This can give you a general idea of who might be interested, whether it’s a lender, supplier, or potential partner.

Types of Credit searches:

Experian distinguishes between two main types of credit searches:

  • Own Enquiry: This is recorded when you, as the business owner or an authorised representative, check your own company's credit profile. These "soft checks" do not negatively impact your credit score and are solely for your information.

  • External Enquiry: This occurs when a third party, such as a potential lender, supplier, or partner, checks your company's credit profile. These can be "hard checks" (when applying for credit) or "soft checks" (for due diligence).

Where can I find credit search information in my Capitalise account?

You can view recent credit searches on your company by logging into your Capitalise account and going to the "Your credit profile" page. There, you’ll find a section showing:

  • External enquiries, including the date and sector of the company that searched your profile.

  • Own enquiries, showing when you or an authorised user checked your own profile.
