Where does my account information come from?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The details you see regarding your business bank accounts and credit accounts on your Capitalise credit profile are sourced through specific data-sharing schemes that Experian manages:

  • The Current Account Turnover (CATO) scheme for bank accounts and,

  • The Credit Account Information Sharing (CAIS) scheme for credit accounts.

Experian's data sharing schemes (CATO & CAIS):

These schemes enable your current account providers and lenders/credit providers to share data with Experian at regular intervals:

Current Account Turnover (CATO) reports data from your current account providers, including:

  • Account provider

  • Account balance

  • Account balance history

  • Account credit turnover

  • Account rejected/ bounced payments

Credit Account Information Sharing (CAIS) reports data from lenders and credit providers, including:

  • Credit account balance

  • Credit account type

  • Repayment history

  • Late payments

  • Repayment terms

💡Good to know: CATO and CAIS are distinct from Open Banking.

Open Banking is a separate initiative that allows for real-time sharing of financial data with your explicit consent. The data reported to Experian through CATO and CAIS follows a different reporting schedule.

Reporting frequency and data timeliness:

Data reported into the Experian CATO and CAIS schemes is typically updated every 45 calendar days. This means that the account balances and other information you see on your Capitalise credit profile are generally not real-time and may be out of date by several weeks.

Implications of the reporting lag:

Due to this reporting frequency:

  • Recent activity might not be visible: very recent payments or changes to your credit limits might not yet be reflected in the reported data.

  • Account balances may not be current: the balance shown for your bank and credit accounts might not reflect the most recent transactions.

How this data appears on Capitalise:

Capitalise displays the bank and credit account information as it is reported by your providers through the CATO and CAIS schemes at these periodic intervals. While it provides a valuable historical view and insights into your business financial behaviour, remember the inherent reporting lag.
